‘The Idea’

‘The Idea’ tapestry design is inspired by psychological research about artistic creative process. The creative process is defined as a succession of thoughts and actions leading to original and appropriate productions (Lubart, 2001), and it consists of different stages - orientation (problem selection), preparation, incubation, ideation, insight, verification, realisation and evaluation. These stages are abstractly represented as circles, which are, because of their symmetry, considered as perfect shapes. The perfect shape of the circle symbolises a piece of art, which is a reflection of artist's thoughts and emotions. The realisation stage is represented through the introduction and installation of an aluminium sculptural arc in a highly contrasting material to that of the tapestry.

The dimensions of the proposed tapestry are according to Golden ratio - 566 x 370 cm and it is intended to be hung in SITE 2: Double Height Gallery. The street view from the oculus windows is connected by the colours chosen. The sculptural part of the installation is a 5mm laser cut and bent powder coated aluminium sheet (RAL 9011 - Graphite black) which is fastened to the tapestry/wall with screws.

Ana Mircetic-Velickovic is an architect living and working in Nis, Serbia. She graduated from GAF - Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, University of Nis, in 2007, and is currently an architect at Kapaprojekt.
