Cool Down, Stop Acting Crazy

Woven by Amy Cornall

Cool, Down Stop Acting Crazy is a study of Hard-Edge + Colourfield art and how geometric order and pure colour can be emotive. The work rejects formal representations or gestures and instead encourages immersive contemplation. The concentric rings darken as they pull the viewer inward to a central focal point, in a hypnotic and meditative way. The syntax of the work layers each colour from darkest (in the centre) to lightest (outside) with primary-coloured tones. The use of hard-edges, scale, proportion and palette evoke sensory and emotional complexity without narrative content, enhancing a sense of presence in the room.

Jack MacRae is an architect and artist based on the Sunshine Coast in QLD. He brings architectural practices to his art making, with his work revealing a clear focus on colour, form, materials and scale. Embracing the minimalist, MacRae’s pieces offer a meditative and syntactic experience that celebrates the beauty of pure aesthetics.
