About the Design

Cool, Down Stop Acting Crazy is a study of Hard-Edge + Colourfield art and how geometric order and pure colour can be emotive.

In keeping with Colourfield ideals, the work rejects representation and gesture of immersive, contemplative space. The concentric rings darken as they pull the user inward to a central focal point, in a hypnotic and meditative way. The syntax of the work layers each colour from darkest (in the centre) to lightest (outside) with primary-coloured tones. This uses the expanses of the flat colours to build the artwork up creating depth and transcendence.

The use of hard-edges, scale, proportion and palette can evoke sensory and emotional complexity without narrative content, enhancing a sense of presence in the room.

About the Designer

In a time where art is provocative, sociopolitical and seen to change the way we see the world, Jack MacRae offers a refreshing perspective with his Hard-Edge Colour Field Artworks. Embracing the minimalist, MacRae’s works are simple and harness the power of visual harmony. MacRae focuses on the pure aesthetics of colour, form and scale, inviting viewers into a world where sensory experiences reign supreme.

MacRae’s work engages with the power of expansive colour and geometric shapes to create visually striking compositions that resonate on a personal level. His art strips away the extraneous, rationalising form to its simplest dispositions. Through the self-defined limitations of hand-cut paper collages and vibrant paintings, MacRae explores how colour and structure can forge a deep, emotional connection between people and their surroundings.

By concentrating on the visual impact of colour and the clarity of form, MacRae’s pieces offer a meditative and syntactic experience that celebrates the beauty of pure aesthetics. He uses his Architectural practices and skills in his process to create his works.
